CHARLO, N.B. – The village of Charlo in Northern New Brunswick is in need of a mayor after it’s current mayor quit over an issue which is drawing national headlines.

Jason Carter handed in his resignation after he says some members or council and administrators were drinking taxpayer funded alcohol after public meetings.

Carter tells The Rick Howe Show he discussed the matter with council and it was not well received by some members.

“Council told me they were losing faith and confidence in me. One said I was an embarrassment. Another said I don’t know my role as mayor and that I should stay home”

Carter’s version of events is being disputed by some members of Charlo council. One councillor is quoted as saying the mayor went too far on the issue.
