SAINT JOHN – Poverty in the Saint John area is more of a major issue than many think.
With the Christmas season upon us, a recent video produced by the Salvation Army says 14,000 people are living in poverty in the city, which is enough people to fill Harbour Station twice.
Captain Rodney Bungay of the Salvation Army say the people of Saint John have been helping make Christmas possible for many people.
“It just breaks your heart when you see the demand and you know there’s only so (many) resources to go around,” Bungay says. “But the people of Saint John have been absolutely amazing.”
Bungay says it’s nice to see the smiles on people’s faces at Christmas because of community support.
