SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Frank McCarey is a realist when it comes to the city’s budget.

The general manager of Saint John Transit is hoping the common council will continue funding transit at it’s current level with any extra being a bonus.

McCarey doesn’t believe Saint Johners are impressed with the current amount of bus service being offered. “Obviously we’re meeting some peoples needs quite well but I think when they use the service of 2009 as the benchmark, many people would express disappointment as to where we are now.”

If Saint John Transit is to receive a budget increase, McCarey says he would invest it in addition early morning service for the city.

Common council is expected to receive a draft of the city’s 2013 budget tonight.
