SAINT JOHN, N.B.- A major fire on Main Street in the north end last evening has left at least six people homeless.
Platoon Chief Peter Saab tells News 88.9 the blaze in a large three story building housing six apartments at 126 Main Street was reported around 9:30. “When crews first arrived we could see heavy fire blowing out the rear of the building”, says Saab. “Once we got in to have a look at it we could see there was two rooms on the bottom floor that were fully involved in fire”
Saab says crews contained the blaze to the apartment of origin which contained heavy fire damage with smoke and water damage to the rest of the building.
No one was hurt and an investigation is underway to determine a cause
The Red Cross was called in to look after the displaced families.
