CHARLO, NB–A village in northern New Brunswick is asking the province to call a byelection after their mayor quit over complaints some councillors were drinking alcohol in the municipal building.
Jason Carter resigned last week as the Mayor of Charlo.
He says councillors refused to stop the practice despite his repeated requests, but Deputy Mayor Denis McIntyre says council accepted the resignation because Carter was difficult to work with
and often in conflict with the rest of the council.
Elections New Brunswick says once the request is received it will be added to the list of byelections to be held in May.
