SAINT JOHN – Premier David Alward is not opening his arms to a former Conservative MLA who wants to return to the Tory caucus.

Fundy-River Valley’s Dr. Jim Parrott was kicked out of caucus last September after making remarks in a newspaper commentary that were critical of his government’s relationship with doctors in the province.

The former heart surgeon has expressed a desire to rejoin the Conservatives, but Alward says he’s not ready to make that committment.

“Thus far, there’s been no change in Mr. Parrott’s attitude,” Alward began. “And until I see a change, there would be….no change on this side of our caucus.”

Alward says he has not spoken to Parrott since wishing him well during the doctor’s recent health scare, although he did say he’d be willing to sit down with Parrott in the future.

Despite a unanimous vote to remove him last year, Parrott claims he does have support for his return to caucus.
