MONCTON, N.B. – Its been a special day at Queen Elizabeth Elementary School in Moncton.
Lieutenant Governor Graydon Nicholas was on hand this morning to accept a portrait sculpture of the Queen from the students and staff of the school and professional artist Christian Corbet.
The bust is meant to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and was crafted by Corbet and five students.
Corbet says he used the project to teach the children to set goals and work to achieve them.
“Well, I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that you can’t succeed as an artist. In all reality what I wanted them to believe was in themselves and that you can dream anything you want to dream and it can become reality.”
The sculpture will be unveiled again in February at Government House in Fredericton where the work will become part of the province’s permanent art collection.
