SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Mother Nature showed her fierce side yesterday as strong winds and rain knocked out power to thousands.

At the height of the storm, over 40,000 NB Power customers were effected.

Utility spokesperson Meghan Gerrish says certain areas were hit harder than others. “Fredericton, Moncton, Sussex, up in Bathurst. It’s still a messy situation out there.”

NB Power hopes to have power restored to everyone by the weekend.

Winds in Saint John peaked at 111km/h an hour yesterday causing the glass windows in the Chipman Hill pedway to shatter.

The blustery winds also led to numerous road closures around Saint John.

Bayside Drive, from the causeway south, is still closed to traffic this morning.
