FREDERICTON – The new leader of the provincial Liberals says he’s going to run for a seat in Shawn Graham’s old riding.
Brian Gallant announced this afternoon that he will run in the riding of Kent when a by-election is called.
Gallant said he took a few days to decide, and spoke with people in the riding.
“After speaking to them, I think it’s the right thing to do for the riding of Kent,” Gallant said, speaking on The Todd Veinotte Show moments after his announcement. “I think it’s the right thing to do for our party, and I think it’s going to be very positive for the province to potentially have the leader of the Liberal Party in the legislative assembly.
Graham, the former Liberal premier, resigned his seat last Friday after he was found to be in conflict of interest over his involvement in his government’s loan guarantee to construction company Atcon.
