School absentee rates rising
SAINT JOHN - District 6 said there are a few schools reporting higher-than-normal absentee rates. Director of Education Andrew Hopper said the district is required to report an absentee rate that exceeds ten percent at a school. It's a standard the district followed even before the emergence of H1N1. Hopper said the rates at most schools are still below that benchmark. "There are a few schools that we have noticed that the absentee rate has increased and it would be around the 25% and maybe up to 40%." Hopper said there's no indication that any students have the H1N1 virus, or any other illness. He said some parents are keeping their children at home as a precaution. |
