Absentee rates in New Brunswick are typical of any other flu season
SAINT JOHN - The provincial education department has been monitoring school absentee rates throughout the province this week and initial results show no cause for concern. That from Communications Director, Valerie Kilfoil. She told our newsroom that so far the provincial absentee rate of 18 per cent is typical of any other flu season. Kilfoil said both Districts 6 and 8 overall are reporting an absentee average of 20 per cent. Kilfoil did have a message for parents who are not sure whether or not to send their children to school. She said if your child is sick keep them home, if they're not sick send them. She said keeping a child that is well from school doesn't protect them from getting H1N1 because the flu is still in the community. |
