Premier Boasts Benefits Of NB Power Hydro-Quebec Deal
SAINT JOHN, NB - The premier continues to boast about the benefits of the proposed NB Power Hydro-Quebec deal. Shawn Graham took time out yesterday to clear up what he calls some misconceptions. The premier was in Saint John and he took the opportunity to address a gathering at UNBSJ about the benefits of the deal. Graham says it's the right path for New Brunswick, adding it's a win win for both provinces. He says now is the time to clear up the misconceptions. Graham says, "The talk about the potential for rate shock after five years is groundless, New Brunswickers will in fact be protected because rates today are going to be tied to inflation which over time has been much much lower than NB Power rate increases." Graham goes on to say he's confident the proposed deal is going to help push this province into self sufficiency over the next 20 years. Meanwhile, Energy Minister Jack Keir says the proposed agreement would cover replacement fuel costs during the Lepreau refurbishment. He says the deal would shelter ratepayers from financial risks saving ratepayers about 275-million dollars.
