Officer decorated for bravery

Todd Veinotte-News staff Mar 10, 2010 06:26:56 AM
SAINT JOHN, N.B. - A Saint John resident offered high praise for two police officers last night during an award ceremony at City Hall.

Constables Nicholas Roy and Stacy Humphrey were recognized for their actions while responding to a structure fire last December at 107 Belmont Street.

Roy received a Gold Commendation, while Humphrey was officially recognized.

Constable Roy rescued Bill Mattsson from the burning structure while Constable Humphrey attended to his wife Gloria, who they found in the driveway upon arrival.

Soon after Mr. Mattsson was rescued, a propane cylinder exploded causing extensive damage to the house.

Bill Mattsson was overcome with emotion last night as he thanked the officers for their actions.
