SAINT JOHN, NB - The chairman of the Saint John Harbour Bridge Authority is frustrated with the federal government and it's motive in holding up necessary bridge repairs.
The bridge authority has a funding deal with a private lender but it requires the approval of all three levels of government.
Bob McDevitt says the authority has received a letter from Ottawa requesting a detailed borrowing plan that includes the 22-million dollar debt repayment.
He questions the hold-up.
"To me it looks like a stalling tactic and you have to ask yourself the question why would the federal government be stalling on such an important project like this, it's important to Highway 1and it's important because it's part of the Atlantic Gateway," says McDevitt.
McDevitt says the bridge is checked by engineers on a regular basis and so far the bridge is safe but the repairs are considered urgent and the federal government knows that.
