Stop the Lepreau refurbishment immediately

Professor says nuclear power is on its way out

MONTREAL, Que - Nuclear power is on its way out all around the world and New Brunswick is behind the curve, according to a professor at Laval University.

Ph.D., and nuclear physicist Michael Duguay says Germany will scrap all its nuclear plants by 2020, and offered this advice for New Brunswick.

"You should stop refurbishing Point Lepreau right now and invite the capitalists around the world who want to invest billions of dollars, you don't have to go in debt," Duguay says.

Duguay says the Gulf of St. Lawrence has enormous potential for off-shore wind turbines, a technology which is being embraced around the world.

He says nuclear power is far too problematic, and notes Ontario has decided to not refit four of its Candu reactors.
