SJ Animal Rescue League/SPCA to merge

Andrew Cromwell - News Staff Sep 01, 2010 13:22:50 PM
SAINT JOHN, N.B.- The Saint John SPCA and the Animal Rescue League are preparing for their official merger.

Animal Rescue League spokeswoman Sara Stashick says the two will formally merge and become the SPCA Animal Rescue on September 10th.

Stashick says it's been difficult to run the two services in a city the size of Saint John. "This way we are able to combine our resources, we are able to combine our supporters" Stashick says. "That united front really means we will be able to achieve so much more as a single organization".

Stashick says the primary aim of the merger will be a joint effort on a multi-million dollar capital campaign to build a new animal shelter in Saint John.

Stashick is also inviting the public to the "Pets in The Park" fundraising event on September 12th.
