In November of 2004, the Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications, the C.R.T.C., awarded Rogers Media a license for a new radio broadcasting undertaking in the City of Saint John, New Brunswick. On October 11th, 2005 at 5:30 AM, the station signed on to begin what we believe will be a long and successful commitment to the region.
Official call letters are CHNI-FM but the station will be known as NEWS 88-9.
Following North America's number one form of radio programming, the highly successful news/talk radio format, NEWS 88-9 will provide the most comprehensive, local, live and late-breaking news to the residents of Saint John and surrounding area. All News programming including "Traffic and Weather together on the 1's" will be presented during morning and afternoon drive periods, as well as over the noon hour.
NEWS 88-9 will also broadcast two regional talk shows in association with our stations in Halifax (NEWS 95-7) and Moncton (NEWS 91-9) from 9 till Noon and 1 till 3:30 Monday to Friday. These call in talk shows will address local, national and international issues and concerns and offer a forum for Maritimers to express their opinions and points of view.
And in the evening, NEWS 88-9 focuses on Sports. Bob McCown's Prime Time Sports kicks off our evening programming at 7:00 PM followed by a variety of play by play sports including Major League Baseball and NFL Football.
NEWS 88-9 is proud to begin serving the Saint John community. We will do everything possible to become a source you can rely on - whether it's for news, weather, sports or spirited discussion.
Being here in Saint John is "good news" for us - and it's going to be the "best news" for you.
